M.N.Y.
Through his study of antiquities, New York-based talent Matthew Fisher has found his voice in sculptural stone objects rife with nostalgia. Sophisticated details are carved with precision, classical references are distilled, and function is elevated from routine to ritual. Matthew has channeled that profundity into a meditation on the passage of time, expanding how we see and understand our innate fascination with stone.
Natural stone was present in Matthew’s earliest memories, which helps explain the grace and comfort with which he brings forth form. As the son of a paleontologist, Fisher developed an early understanding of time as ever-changing. “I’ve found that few materials express their age, history, and the story of their formation as stone does so effortlessly,” Fisher explains. This perspective, paired with his formal arts training, has influenced the signature style that defines his work today.
Matthew received his Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Art and Architecture and his Master of Fine Arts from the renowned Pratt Institute. He designs and crafts his work in New York City with the support of artisans from around the globe.

Matthew travels the globe in search of rare remnant blocks and small boulders. Through longstanding relationships with quarry owners, miners, and stonemasons, he secures exclusive access to some of the most exceptional and scarce natural stones. His focus lies on historically significant materials sourced from quarries that have long since ceased operations, often preserved for the restoration of state and religious monuments. These stones, treasured across empires and cultures, embody Matthew's deep respect for history and its enduring legacy.
