Carved from a single piece of specimen stone the solitary orb emerges from the plane on which it sits. Influenced by a ceramic vessel discovered in the wall built at the north-west frontier of the Roman empire following the emperor Hadrian’s visit to Britain in the year 122 AD. The work is a representation of the delicate balance of order maintained by the natural world. A borosilicate glass insert is provided with Vessel 1.
